40-hour Friday

My Friday began midnight Melbourne time, as it has always. 22 hours later we barrelled over the International Dateline, and sped across a secondary, greatly accelerated Friday morning. It's now 11:30pm in Austin, and barring any unforeseen circumstances I'll soon escape this ponderous, sleepless day.

On New Zealand I found foreign soil, which is to say carpet. On a two-hour sojourn in Auckland Airport.

Over an hour on the tarmac at LAX before I was finally admitted to the States -- so late that we ultimately missed our Austin connection and were forced to catch the next flight to Dallas Fort Worth.

Rode the Skylink, a brand new monorail around the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, staring out at the flat flat lands of Texas, a thousand massing blackbirds and remnant snow.
